History and activities of Czech Rheumatological Society:Czech Rheumatological Society (formerly Czechoslovak) was founded April 3, 1969 and professor František Lenoch, M.D., D.Sc. was elected as the first president. After his death in 1970 assoc.professor.Václav Rejholec, M.D., Ph.D. was elected, and in 1990 professor Karel Trnavský, M.D., D.Sc., in 1993 professor Zbyněk Hrnčíř, M.D., D.Sc., and since 2001 to 2009 professor Karel Pavelka, M.D., D.Sc. was the head the society. Since the very beginning many scientific meetings with international participation have been organized as there was XIIth. World Congress of Rheumatology ILAR 1969 in Prague, Prague Rheumatological Symposia under auspices of EULAR and in 2001 EULAR Annual European Congress of Rheumatology and its president was professor Karel Pavelka, M.D., D.Sc. Regional scientific are anually or biannualy held e.g. Třeboň Rheumatological Symposium, Jáchymov (till 2003 Bohdaneč) Rheumatological Symposium, and Annual National Rheumatological Congresses in cooperation with Slovak Rheumatological Society. Czech Rheumatological Society was co-organizer of EULAR Postgraduate Courses which were held in 1997 and 2004 in Prague. Our society participates substantially in activities of other medical fields as internal medicine, orthopaedics and rehabilitation medicine - Internal Medicine Symposia, Orthopaedic Congresses, Slapy Symposia etc. Czech Rheumatological Society has its own scientific journal " Česká revmatologie (Czech Rheumatology)" and editor in chief is professor Jiří Vencovský, M.D., D.Sc. This journal has 4 issues per year.
